Trinity Learning began as an outreach of one church, but has grown to a team of around 70 volunteers, from twelve churches and eight denominations. The team regularly liaise with other statutory and voluntary agencies in the area to ensure as many needs as possible are met and now offer advice to other community organisations across the country, from a group wanting to offer cooking sessions in primary schools to basic mental health awareness training.
They have achieved great things in the last year and after officially becoming a charity they had the children in the community design their new logo. Rosemary Perrow commented, ‘Our outreach has always been client-focussed, so we thought it only right and proper for our new charity’s logo to be designed by the children we serve. A competition gave children the chance to think about TrinityLearning and it was interesting to see their depictions of peace and community. MCC Design worked up the winning design, by eight-year old Olivia from Wootton St Peter’s School, to produce something which really sums up our work – our hands setting pupils and teachers free to go in peace.
Alongside this Trinity Learning becoming an official charity, their loyal volunteers have over 800 hours of community building. They have added more schools to their experience Easter programme. They have offered numerous projects to numerous schools, including rebuilding a sensory garden , singing activities and other sensory programmes.
Rosemary commented, ‘We have been delighted to offer several projects to Kingfisher Special School this year. As well as specially adapted stories and activities at Experience Easter, a Sensory Church and Christingle visit, and a weekly singing group, we have been helping them to refurbish their sensory garden. Abingdon Beavers blitzed the weeds, Explorer Scouts pruned overhanging branches and volunteers from Abingdon Green Rooves have renovated the damp-course, ready for planting in the Autumn.’
Their true passion lies with teaching and bringing peace to the community, Rosemary said ‘Over the years, we have worked with many community groups. This year, we were delighted to receive an enquiry from Abingdon Peace Group, who wanted help with a school competition to mark International Peace Day in September. The result of this coalition has been a 34-page teacher’s resource pack, full of ideas on teaching Peace, which has gone out to all schools in The Abingdon Partnership.’
