Where are they now? Our 2018 Community Awards Finalists – Dovecote Voluntary Parent Committee

Dovecote Children & Families project is a community led, parent managed scheme delivering various services to support the development and wellbeing of children, children with disabilities and families experiencing complex issues, poverty and social exclusion.

After a tough beginning to the year for the Dovecote Parent Committee after a break in and a struggle to secure funding, they have managed to thrive once again by developing a new equipment for the Dovecote Garden. The new equipment includes gym bars, inclined balance beams, chin up bars and waving balance beams. This provides more outdoor interactive play for those attending and enjoying the Dovecote Garden.

They have been hosting up to 32 children per day and all their services are going from strength to stremth. They have continued to run their afterschool club, their summer play schemes and stay and play sessions bringing the community together and making great use of their beautiful sensory garden, play structure and play shed.

Carol Richards of the project commented, ‘All of our local parents are still very dedicated to the project.’ As show from their story of overcoming setbacks and still moving forward. We here at Groundwork could not be prouder of our 2018 finalist.

This years Groundwork Community Awards take place on 22nd November 2019.
