People's Choice Award

Groundwork opens public vote for ‘People’s Choice’ Award

Groundwork has today opened an online poll for the public to vote on which of the 30 Groundwork Community Award finalists should receive a special ‘People’s Choice Award’ in recognition of their work in making their local area better places to live.

The Groundwork Community Awards were launched by the charity last year to honour small community groups making a big difference to everyone’s quality of life and to celebrate and reward groups who often get little recognition and support. The awards received over 600 nominations, reflecting the huge diversity of projects and services being delivered by community volunteers.

Nominations were assessed by a panel of independent experts with finalists being invited to attend a national awards ceremony hosted by BBC presenter and Groundwork Ambassador, Georgina Burnett, at the Houses of Parliament on 22 November.

Groundwork Ambassador and host for the Awards, Georgina Burnett, said:

Encouraging communities to work together has never been more important, and it’s so wonderful to highlight the projects taking place and to hear the results of the hard work undertaken by groups and individuals. It’s vital we put all our energies behind such initiatives and voting for the People’s Choice in the Groundwork Community Awards is a really easy and important first step.

The Groundwork Community Awards are sponsored by B&Q, Buzzacott, Firmdale Hotels, Givewith, GVA, John Lewis Partnership, M&S, the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, Peel Land & Property and Tesco.
